Solo or So Low?

As the industry continues to evolve, so do our ways of working. Many nail professionals now find themselves working alone, either from a home salon or mobile, travelling to peoples homes.
Whilst many love the independence that offers, it is not unusual for a nails tech to wish they had to team to bounce from, learn from and engage with and lack of that human co-worker interaction can understandably leave some people feeling low.
Of course not every salon is the positive team environment we all dream of, but at least under normal circumstances there will be a friendly face each morning and even someone to share the work load with.
How can those working on their own find that comradery they are missing? I'd suggest attending any local events, going to those smaller exhibitions where you can meet up with people year after year, and cautiously joining a Facebook group or two, you might also find signing up for an industry related short course at your local college a great way to meet like minded people, or the local business association.
There are also some great collectives that work a little like a booking agent, that will open up new doors and allow new clients to find you, with the added benefit of occasionally working with the team at events, these usually focus on the bigger city centres and I know many nail tech's who work with them successfully.
As a nail technician or beauty therapist, we see many people each day as clients and this can be enough human contact for some, but for those craving working with a team, consider contacting local salons and asking if you could be a 'supply nail tech', offering holiday cover or an extra pair of hands in busy times.
Networking is HUGE, and great for business, so get out there, meet some people and make your own team of like minded supportive nails pro's to fill the gap you feel you have.
Reach out if you need help with this, I would love to grab a coffee at a show with you or a virtual coffee on Facetime!
